Neftis Laboratorios installs 886 photovoltaic solar panels for self-consumption in the warehouses located in Santa Eulàlia de Ronçana and will continue to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the company.
On September 25, 2015, the United Nations General Assembly approved the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The 17 goals included in the Agenda have the mission of eradicating poverty, fighting inequality and injustice, and ensuring access to affordable, safe, sustainable and modern energy for all.
Goal 7 specifies that all people should have access to energy services and that the overall flow of green energy should be increased. This goal addresses aspects such as universal access to clean, affordable, reliable and modern energy services. On the other hand, and considering the current context of climate change, these aspects must necessarily be added to the increase in the share of renewable energies, energy efficiency, research and promotion of investment in energy infrastructures and clean technologies.
General description of the Neftis Laboratorios photovoltaic plant The energy self-consumption project of Neftis Laboratorios, managed by the company Elecsum, consists of a solar photovoltaic installation with a total power of 407.56 kWp, connected to the internal network of the warehouses and under self-consumption regime. The collection is carried out by 886 solar panels located on the roofs of the Neftis Laboratorios warehouses in Santa Eulàlia de Ronçana.
The expected production is 506,939 kWh/year, which is equivalent to 40.2% of the energy that Neftis Laboratorios consumes annually in its production process in its facilities. Of all this planned photovoltaic production, 65.5% will be used for self-consumption.
CO₂ savings from the photovoltaic project. With this energy self-consumption project Neftis Laboratorios will stop emitting 200 tons of CO₂ into the atmosphere annually, which is equivalent to planting 6700 trees each year.
In addition, the installation will provide Neftis Laboratorios with very significant annual energy savings that will allow the investment made to be amortized in just 7 years.
Marc Xalabarder, General Manager of Neftis Laboratorios points out that: "This energy project fits perfectly with the strategic objectives we have at Neftis, which are: sustainability, growth and adaptability. We are very pleased to initiate this purpose of energy self-consumption that leads us to drastically decrease the emission of CO₂ into the atmosphere. We cannot perceive a modern company without sustainability measures such as the one we have adopted with this new investment."
What is photovoltaic self-consumption? The purpose of a photovoltaic solar self-consumption installation such as the one in this project is to transform solar radiation into electrical energy, converting it and then channeling it for immediate use in the company's own premises. This requires three basic elements: the solar collectors, the inverter and the power controller.
