The latest trend is the use of exosomes in advanced cosmetic treatments, a new system for delivering key active ingredients for tissue regeneration and pro-ageing results.
What are exosomes?
Exosomes are small extracellular vesicles released by cells whose potential has been explored for use in cosmetics, tissue regeneration and dermatological diseases. To understand their effects, we must first distinguish them from liposomes. Liposomes are vesicles formed by a lipid bilayer that mimic skin conditions and encapsulate active ingredients for controlled release. Exosomes, on the other hand, are even smaller and act as intercellular messengers loaded with proteins and genetic material, such as microRNA and messenger RNA, facilitating deeper cell-to-cell communication.
Cosmetic application of exosomes
In cosmetics, they are used to strengthen the skin barrier and improve the appearance of the skin. The result is skin that is better protected against external aggression, with fewer surface wrinkles and greater elasticity. In medicine, some dermatologists use them to promote tissue regeneration in skin wounds and to treat dermatological conditions such as psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, pigmentation regulation, vitiligo and hair growth.
Differences between Exosomes and Liposomes
When we talk about lipid vesicles and active ingredient delivery systems in cosmetics, we might think of liposomes. And yes, they are similar in structure, although exosomes are expected to have a superior effect. And why is that? Well, because the liposome bilayer is made up of lipids only, whereas exosomes also contain membrane proteins. Both can be biotechnologically loaded with small active molecules. The advantage of exosomes is that they already contain nucleic acids and other cellular components that are beneficial to skin health.
Exosomes in our formulas
At Neftis Laboratories, we have adopted them to develop formulas that harness the ability of exosomes to penetrate the deepest layers of the skin. Using plant extracts obtained through biotechnological techniques, we capture the essence that mimics natural processes for maximum compatibility and efficacy.
With products such as 'Exosomes Cream', 'Exosomes Biorevitalising Cocktail' and 'Exosomes Antiaging Cocktail', we offer solutions for those seeking not just a temporary improvement, but a substantial and lasting change in the health of their skin. These formulas are designed to soothe, regenerate and protect the skin, addressing challenges such as ageing, inflammation and dryness.
Mesotherapy in Exosome Application
While exosomes are powerful on their own, their addition to mesotherapy cocktails can amplify their benefits. At Neftis, we have developed two standard mesotherapy products that combine exosomes with stem cells for a synergistic effect. Many customers have already included them in their range after experiencing the great results. And if you want to differentiate yourself, our R&D team can adapt them to your needs.
We also have a range of products that harness the power of these little allies to help set new standards in skincare.
