Chemical peeling rejuvenates the skin immediately

It is a topical treatment, mainly consisting of acids, that take off the most superficial layers of the skin in a controlled manner, improving its appearance remarkably. The most desired clinical effect when performing a facial chemical peel is rejuvenation.

Mostly applied on a facial level, however despite, this, they are also highly effective for body treatments.

Types of acids

The most common acids used are glycolic acid, lactic acid, and trichloroacetic acid. Between them the aim is to cleanse, hydrate and depigment.

• Glycolic acid: This is the acid with the simplest chemical structure and therefore, it is the one that can penetrate quicker and easier through the skin. Main uses of treatment: acne, rough texture, hyperpigmentation and photo-ageing.
• Lactic acid: Its purpose is very similar to glycolic acid, and it can be obtained both synthetically and naturally. As well as being an acidic ingredient in the chemical peeling formulation, it has moisturizing and pH regulation properties of cosmetic formulae. Main uses of treatment: dry skin and rosacea. Its combined use is very common.
• Trichloroacetic acid (TCA): It can be applied by both a brush or by a facial mask and attains very satisfactory results on moderate acne scars, solar keratosis, brown patches/sun spots, and facial lentigo. Main uses of treatment: depigmentation, dilated pores, acne scars, anti-wrinkle and photo-ageing of both face and hands.

How to apply them?

• The face or area to be treated should be cleansed. For which, we recommend using a liquid soap or an AHA product, an astringent or degreasing toner, or a mechanical exfoliant.
• Application. Dose and apply the acid by means of a brush, and always do so with an upward not downward stroke, whilst avoiding both eye contact, and the area of the mucous membranes.

Leave on for about 2-5 minutes depending on the skin type, and then neutralize with water. The exposure time can be increased, depending on product tolerance.

• Neutralization. Depending on the acid applied, it is necessary to neutralize it at the end of the peel, but one can also remove it with abundant

• Post treatment. We recommend applying a topical product that soothes and protects, in order to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation.

Post treatment care

To maximize and prolong the results of a chemical peel for professional use, we recommend following up and continuing the treatment at home. This will be customised according to each individual skin type and characteristics, and the type of peel applied. Some of the general recommendations that we offer from Neftis Laboratorios are:

• Treat the dryness, Erythema, itching and / or sensitivity caused during the first and second week.
• From the third week on, hydrate and protect the skin, mainly with topical products rich in antioxidants.
• The use of a photoresistor after treatment is essential. In addition to the above, from Neftis Laboratorios we recommend the use of Retinol one month before treatment; to increase the absorption of the peel. The thickness of the stratum corneum is reduced, achieving a greater uniformity of the application of the chemical peel.
