Plastic has an ever greater presence in our daily lives. Over a few decades, it has become one of the most commonly used materials for all kinds of objects, because of its characteristics of high strength and low price.
The growth of plastic waste, its poor management and/or careless disposal means that around 8 million tonnes end up in the seas and oceans each year, making up between 60 and 80% of marine rubbish. This rubbish causes entanglement, suffocation, strangulation or malnutrition (after being ingested and blocking the stomach or intestine of the animal) of sea life*.
At Neftis Laboratorios, we are concerned about the environment. To raise awareness of the magnitude of the problem, we needed just a week to save all the disposable water bottles that all the team members used. The result was a mountain of plastic which could have been avoided by a simple gesture: by using very durable, reusable glass containers.
At Neftis Laboratorios, we have equipped all team members with an Emil® bottle, thanks to the collaboration of Planeta Emil®. This is a multi-use reinforced glass bottle, strong and stable, that maintains the temperature of the drink and is fully reusable.
The reduction of plastic consumption is the responsibility of all of us, and we want to do our bit. And what else can we do?
- Avoid single-use plastic bags. Use fabric bags, baskets or trolleys.
- Make the purchase of reusable and/or returnable bottles and containers a priority.
- Reject single-use packaging and utensils such as glasses, cutlery or drinking straws.
- Dispose of plastic waste in the corresponding container. Avoid item with excess packaging (e.g. plastified styrofoam trays). And give priority to loose products.
Together we can achieve a better tomorrow.
